The end of indexing?
What if the web becomes more and more personalised, what if what you see when you visit a site is not the same as what I see? How do you pre- index a page for a search engine like google if everyone sees something different?
The issue may seem very distant, or improbable, but with the advent of ‘portable IDs’ like Facebook Connect we may see more and more sites leveraging dynamic content that is off-limits to anonymous bots.
What does all this mean,? Well perhaps we’ll see a decline in the utility of a google search and the emergence of other search techniques to complement it. Twitter offers a sort of read-what-others-are-reading technique (using real people as a filter rather than the PageRank algorithm), and more new models may follow.
